About Us

Situated along the west bank of the scenic Hudson River, just north of the Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge and south of Hook Mountain, the Nyack Boat Club (NBC) is a member-owned and operated club with a 100-year history of getting people out on the water. The Club's mission has always been to encourage and support recreational boating and sailing on the Hudson River and surrounding waters, all while promoting good seamanship and helping members improve their sailing and navigation skills in a spirit of cooperation, friendship, and camaraderie. Both sailors and non-sailors are welcome at the club; the only requirement is the enjoyment and appreciation of our proximity and access to the Hudson River.

While the Nyack Boat Club runs regular races on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons—we also participate in races at other locations up and down the river—there are plenty of social activities for the whole family held throughout the season. The NBC clubhouse includes a full upstairs kitchen, equipped with modern amenities. The kitchen opens to a large common room with a fireplace, which is where we hold our meetings and indoor social events. Whenever we can though, we make our way outside to enjoy the spectacular view and cooling breezes that come off the water. Just outside the great room is a covered porch that runs the length of the clubhouse, with rocking chairs that face the river and offer an expansive view of the Hudson River, our fleet of moored cruising boats anchored in a Coast Guard-designated mooring field, and the fleets of one-design sailboats resting on the tarmac below.

Just below the porch, there's an even larger patio with chairs and tables, plus a snack bar, where members typically gather on nice days and evenings to socialize at club events or after our races and regattas. In a grassy area just south of the clubhouse you'll find barbecues, picnic tables, and even a small children's playground area.

For those who want to get even closer to the water, there's a 300-foot pier that stretches out into the Hudson—where we hold our much-celebrated annual Pier Party—along with a succession of finger docks where members can tie up when needed, or board the NBCs seasonal launch service that ferries members and their guests to and from the club and their moored boats. The club also has several smaller outboard-power motor boats that are free for use by members when they need them.

In addition to the cruising boats that are moored in the river just east of the club, there is ample dry-sail area on the tarmac for the club's active one-design fleets, which include Lasers, Thistles, Lightnings, Sonars, and Ensigns. The club maintains several hoists for getting these boats into and out of the water.

And when the season comes to an end, there's another big benefit to club members: You can store your boat right on the tarmac at the club; only the very largest boats need to shuttle off to a marina for winter storage. Member work committees take care of the heavy work, using our more substantial hoists to pull boats at the end of the season and store them on cradles or trailers, and then launch them again the following year when the season opens.

Whether you're an active racer, recreational sailor, or just enjoy being part of a lively, engaging waterfront community, the Nyack Boat Club has something to offer. To find out more about the club or arrange to visit to see our facilities, please visit our Contact page, select "Admissions & Membership," enter your information, and a representative will get back to you shortly.
