Bulkhead Remediation: Work Parties Need Volunteers

NBC Bulkhead Remediation Project -- Volunteers Needed.

OVERVIEW

Work is Tide Dependent so look at the times on the calendar, as each day is different.  Water will be provided and where work overlaps with lunch and snacks it will be provided.

We expect work to run through October 2nd.

The job includes moving the work platforms and our barge into place against the bulkhead, installing our debris/water collection system and preparing for the Hydroblasting company to do their thing.

As each section of the bulkhead is blasted, we will be moving the work platform and barge to the net section.

This is where we need at least 6 volunteers each day. It will be nothing strenuous or complicated.

A Few Key Points

Each area will be cordoned off and only contractors and volunteers will be permitted in the work zone, a safety officer will be designated for the construction activities. 

There will be a Safety Meeting every morning before work begins.

PFDs are required, bring your own or grab one from the bin on the patio. Also, if you have ear protection, bring it as working close to the the machines can be loud. 

The project is weather dependent. Winds will be the most important factor. Strong winds, especially from the north may cause waves and rollers that will make work difficult if not impossible. We will monitor the forecast and make the call the day before as early as possible.

Both yellow tin boats are reserved for this project for the duration so they cannot be used for other projects.

Water, snacks and lunch will be provided.

 Planned schedule

- hydroblasting to start 9/21 approximately 5 to 8 working days

- coating starting 9/23 they will follow behind hydroblasting, approximately 5 working days

- Section 2 starting 9/23 (actually they started sawcutting the asphalt so they can start excavation on 9/23)  Approximately 5 working days
